GTA 6 Online Release Date: What's Known So Far

There is no GTA 6 Online release date. Rockstar has not announced an online mode for GTA 6, and has published no date for one. What does exist is a set of signals: both console stores describe the game as a single-player experience, Take-Two's CEO has called it that too, and a Rockstar court filing refers to an "unannounced online service".

This page sorts those signals into what is on record and what is reported, and we update it when Rockstar speaks.

What the store listings say

Sony's product page for Grand Theft Auto VI lists 1 player, offline play enabled and Remote Play. It says "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience." There is no online-play entry.

Microsoft's Xbox listing carries the capability tag Single player and the same sentence. No online multiplayer tag appears.

Reported. These are storefront descriptions for the game as it goes on sale on 19 November 2026. They are not a Rockstar statement about whether or when an online mode follows. Store metadata changes when a game's features change, so an online tag appearing on either listing would be an early signal.

What Take-Two has said

At Take-Two's annual meeting of stockholders on 17 September 2026, CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked about GTA Online. According to PC Gamer, he reminded attendees that GTA 6 is "a singleplayer experience" and that GTA Online "continues to be a robust business" the company will keep supporting. GTA BOOM quotes him saying "There's no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch."

Reported. Those are Take-Two's words, but we know them through press reports. We have not seen a transcript of the meeting.

On the earnings call on 7 August, Zelnick said "we expect to continue to support GTA Online going forward." Confirmed, from the call transcript. That quote is about the GTA Online that has run since 2013, not a new one. Nobody at Take-Two has given a date or timeframe for a GTA 6 online mode.

What the court filing says

A Glasgow employment tribunal over Rockstar's dismissal of staff in late 2025 put one number in public. According to GamesRadar+, a staff Discord message in the court documents mentions a "large session" involving 32 players. Rockstar's own grounds of resistance say employees discussed "the specific number of online players planned for this service", which it called "an unannounced online service".

Reported. This is a legal filing seen by reporters, not a launch plan. It tells us Rockstar describes an online service as planned and unannounced. It does not say when that service launches, and test numbers can change. Our report on the 32-player court filing has the background.

What GTA V did in 2013

This is precedent, not a prediction. GTA V launched on 17 September 2013. GTA Online followed on 1 October 2013, two weeks later, as a free mode reached from a menu inside GTA V. NBC News reported that plan in August 2013, and GTA Online's release history records the 1 October launch.

That staggered launch is the closest model we have. Nothing on record says GTA 6 will repeat it, and nothing says how long any gap would be. Twitch's CEO has predicted a 2027 launch for GTA 6 multiplayer, but PC Gamer notes it is unclear whether he was speculating. We don't treat it as a source.

What this means for launch day

Buy GTA 6 for the story campaign. That is what both listings describe for 19 November. No edition lists access to a GTA 6 online mode, because none has been announced.

Crossplay has nothing to apply to until an online mode exists, and Rockstar hasn't announced it. Our crossplay guide covers the track record. What would change this page

• A Rockstar announcement. A Newswire post naming an online mode, a date or a player count would be the first confirmation, and we would update the same day.
• A store listing change. An online-play or multiplayer tag on the PlayStation or Xbox listing.
• A Take-Two statement with a timeframe, for example on an earnings call.
• Published court records. Anything further from the tribunal that is on the record.

Until then, the honest answer to "is GTA 6 online?" is: the stores list it as single-player, and Rockstar hasn't said anything else.
