GTA 6: Everything We Know (Updated August 2026)

This is our living reference hub for Grand Theft Auto VI. Facts here come from Rockstar's announcements, Take-Two's filings, or a platform holder's own storefront. Where a number is a third-party estimate rather than an official figure, we say so on the line. Last factual review: 17 August 2026, with 94 days to launch.

Release date: November 19, 2026

GTA 6 launches Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar announced the date on November 6, 2025, and it has held through four public reaffirmations:

• May 21, 2026: Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick ruled out another delay on the company's earnings call and confirmed the marketing campaign starts in summer 2026.
• June 25, 2026: preorders opened against the November 19 date.
• July 17, 2026: Zelnick reaffirmed the date in a shareholder letter.
• August 7, 2026: the date appeared in print in Take-Two's Q1 FY2027 results.

That last one is the strongest of the four, and it is worth understanding why. The others were comments. Take-Two's Q1 FY2027 earnings release lists Grand Theft Auto VI in its official lineup table with a release date of November 19, 2026, and reiterates full-year net bookings guidance of $8.0 to $8.2 billion. Fiscal 2027 ends March 31, 2027, so a November launch puts roughly four and a half months of GTA 6 sales inside that year. A company cannot hold an $8 billion range in public and privately plan a delay. Full breakdown: what the Q1 results actually said.

The road here was long. The game was revealed in December 2023 with a "2025" window, moved to May 26, 2026, then settled on November 19, 2026. With preorders live, preload dated and guidance filed, another move would be a genuine shock. Our countdown tracks the remaining days.

The August 27 Extended Look is the next confirmed event

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 3 p.m. ET, exclusively on Netflix. Six hours later, at 9 p.m. ET the same night, Rockstar puts the same footage on its YouTube channel and the official Grand Theft Auto VI site, free and with no account required.

Rockstar has not published a runtime, and has not said whether the showcase contains gameplay, a third trailer, or both. Two runtime figures have circulated widely; both fall apart under checking. Start times for every major timezone are in our Extended Look watch guide.

Platforms: PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is the entire launch platform list, and it is the list printed in Take-Two's own results table.

Sony's official product page also tags the game PS5 Pro Enhanced, a badge added quietly between June and July 2026 with no announcement from anyone. It confirms Rockstar is doing PS5 Pro specific work. It does not promise 60fps. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson has since confirmed the base PS5 and Xbox Series X build runs at 30fps, with a 60fps mode undecided rather than ruled out; PS5 Pro's own frame rate is still unpublished. Every Pro upgrade Sony lists is on the GPU side; the machine runs the same CPU architecture as a base PS5, which is why the Pro badge alone doesn't imply 60fps.

One wrinkle worth knowing before you buy: the "physical" edition ships as a boxed download code, with no disc. A disc release later has been rumoured and never confirmed. See the platforms guide for the full picture.

No PC version has been announced

Rockstar has not announced GTA 6 for PC, and the Q1 filing is now the clearest evidence yet that none is planned inside fiscal 2027. The same lineup table that lists GTA VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S lists NBA 2K27 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC, and lists Judas with PC alongside a TBA date. So the platform column is not being withheld until a date is locked. Price, editions and preorder numbers

• Standard Edition: $79.99
• Ultimate Edition: $99.99

Every preorder placed before November 20 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack: a '55 Vapid Stanier, the Shore Court garage near Ocean Beach, outfits, hairstyles and a weapon pattern. Rockstar has published no preorder total. The figures in circulation are third-party estimates: Sensor Tower's public tracker recorded roughly 4.3 million preorders, split 77% PlayStation and 23% Xbox, and its analysis put 89% of early buyers on the $99.99 tier, a premium share the analyst behind it said he had never seen before. Treat both as estimates rather than facts; the same analyst expects the Ultimate share to fall toward an even split by launch.

Sony's listing calls GTA 6 a single-player experience

Under game features, Sony's storefront lists 1 player. There is no online play entry, no multiplayer mode, and no mention of a GTA Online successor. Rockstar has never said online is coming at launch and has never said it isn't, so the storefront's capability data is currently the hardest evidence that exists. Storefront metadata can change before release, and we will update this line if it does.

Setting: the State of Leonida

GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, Rockstar's Florida, anchored by Vice City, the series' Miami. Officially confirmed regions beyond the city include the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Ambrosia, Mount Kalaga National Park and Port Gellhorn. More in the setting guide.

Protagonists: Lucia and Jason

For the first time in the series' 3D era you play two leads: Lucia Caminos, the first non-optional female GTA protagonist, and Jason Duval, an Army veteran pulled into Leonida's drug economy. Rockstar frames them as a criminal couple in over their heads. Profiles: characters guide.

Trailers and marketing so far

• Trailer 1, December 5, 2023. 93 million views in its first 24 hours, over 268 million by late 2025.
• Trailer 2, May 6, 2025. Confirmed as in-game PS5 footage. More than 475 million views across platforms in 24 hours, an all-time record for a trailer.
• Trailer 3: not released as a standalone. Rockstar has never used the phrase. Whether the Extended Look contains one is unannounced.
• The official site relaunched in May 2025 with roughly 70 screenshots and character pages. 60 new screenshots followed on June 27, 2026, and official cover art was revealed June 18, 2026.

Launch week: preload is dated, the unlock time is not

Digital preload opens Thursday, November 12, 2026 at midnight local time, one week before release. It covers both consoles and boxed copies, since the physical edition is a code.

The moment the game becomes playable on November 19 has not been announced by Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft. The confident hour-by-hour tables already ranking for that question are estimates built on a rule of thumb, and Rockstar's own precedent points the other way: Red Dead Redemption 2 went live at a single global moment, not local midnight. Rockstar has also not published a download size. If storage is tight, check how much space your console actually has before preload night.

What Rockstar still has not said

Being explicit about the gaps is the point of this page. As of today there is no official figure for the download size, the launch-day unlock time, a PS5 Pro-specific frame rate, the preorder total, GTA Online's future, or a PC release. Anyone publishing those numbers as confirmed is guessing, and we will not add them here until a primary source does.
