GTA 6 60fps, Performance Mode and PS5 Pro: Status
Edited by Arthur HofUpdated: Last verified:
Nobody has published a 60fps mode for GTA 6. Not Rockstar, not Sony, not Microsoft. The only frame rate figure on record is 30fps for the console build as it stood in August, and it came from a Rockstar North executive's comment during a press preview, not from a spec sheet.
That is the status on 29 September 2026, seven weeks before GTA 6 launches on 19 November for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This page tracks what is known, what is still blank, and what Rockstar did the last time it shipped GTA on new consoles. It will carry measured figures for each console once the game is out.
The only figure on record is 30fps, and it describes a build in progress
In late August, Rockstar ran a hands-off preview at Rockstar North in Edinburgh. According to Brazilian outlet Flow Games, co-studio head Rob Nelson told its creator Davy Jones that the console version "during this development period" runs at 30 frames per second. Asked about a 60fps option at launch or later, Nelson said the technical team would have to confirm it. TechRadar quotes the Flow Games report in full.
Two things matter about that comment. First, it reached the public secondhand, through a creator's account, rather than as a Rockstar announcement. Second, it describes the build of that moment, not the finished game. Inven Global's write-up adds that Nelson gave no details on resolution or ray tracing either. We covered the comment when it broke in GTA 6 runs at 30fps, 60fps mode undecided.
The Extended Look video doesn't settle it either. Inven notes it was captured in-game on PS5 and that Digital Foundry found a generally stable 30fps. The video itself was rendered at 30fps, though, so it cannot show what the game can do beyond that.
PS5 Pro Enhanced is confirmed, but no one has said what it means
Sony's official GTA VI page lists the game as available on PS5 and PS5 Pro Enhanced, and its FAQ says it releases for PS5 and PS5 Pro on 19 November. That is platform-holder data, so Pro-specific work is confirmed.
What the tag doesn't tell you is what the work is. When Sony introduced the PS5 Pro, it listed a faster GPU, stronger ray tracing and the PSSR upscaler, then added in its own small print that "PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game." The badge can mean sharper image quality, a steadier frame rate, better ray tracing or a mix. Nobody has published which one GTA 6 gets. Our analysis of why the tag does not automatically mean 60fps is in GTA 6 is PS5 Pro Enhanced. That doesn't mean 60fps.
Everything else is still blank
As of today, none of these has been published by Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft:
- A 60fps or performance mode on any console, at launch or later.
- Resolution on any console, native or upscaled.
- Ray tracing: whether it is used, and on which machines.
- Xbox Series X vs Series S differences. The Xbox store listing declares five capabilities: single player, Optimized for Xbox Series X|S, achievements, presence and cloud saves. It gives no frame rate, resolution, 4K or HDR claim.
- What PS5 Pro Enhanced actually changes.
Any site quoting a GTA 6 resolution, a 40fps mode or a Series S frame rate as fact is guessing. For the wider buying question, our PS5 vs Xbox guide covers what each store lists.
How GTA V handled PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
This section is about GTA V, not GTA 6. It shows how Rockstar has presented performance options before. It is not a prediction.
When GTA V came to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 15 March 2022, Rockstar spelled out three graphics modes in a Newswire post:
| GTA V mode | Target | PS5 and Xbox Series X | Xbox Series S |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fidelity | 30 FPS | Native 4K, ray tracing on | Upscaled 4K |
| Performance | 60 FPS | Upscaled 4K | 1080p |
| Performance RT | 60 FPS | Upscaled 4K, ray tracing on | Not offered |
Two patterns stand out. Rockstar published exact targets per console before release, in a Newswire post. And the Series S got a different, lower resolution in two modes and missed the third mode entirely. That is how GTA V worked, on a game that was already years old when those versions came out. Whether GTA 6 gets any mode choice at all is unknown.
When this page will fill in
Real numbers can arrive in two ways. Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft could publish a spec before launch, the way Rockstar did for GTA V in 2022. Or the game ships on 19 November and the figures can be measured.
Here is what we will add, and when:
- Any official statement on modes, frame rates or resolution, the day it appears, with the source.
- Launch-week figures per console: PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Series S. For each one we will note who measured it and on which patch.
- Store capability tags if Sony or Microsoft add frame rate, 4K or HDR labels to their listings.
Until then, the honest answer to "is GTA 6 60fps?" is nobody knows yet. If you are thinking about a PS5 Pro upgrade for GTA 6, no source today promises a higher frame rate on it.
