Leonida & Vice City: The GTA 6 Setting Explained

Updated:

GTA 6 returns the series to Vice City for the first time since 2002 — but this time the city is one part of an entire state. Here's every officially confirmed region and what it draws from.

The State of Leonida

Leonida is Rockstar's fictionalized Florida: neon coastline, swampland, spring-break beach towns, faded industrial ports and everything in between. Rockstar has confirmed the state name and the regions below through its official site and screenshots — the exact map size is not officially confirmed, so treat any "leaked map" you see with suspicion.

Vice City

The Miami of the GTA universe and the heart of the game. Official material shows Ocean Drive-style art-deco strips, downtown high-rises, beaches and nightlife. Lucia and Jason's story runs through its criminal economy — from street level to the property-and-clubs class personified by characters like Boobie Ike.

Leonida Keys

A chain of islands south of the mainland — Rockstar's take on the Florida Keys. Officially described through Brian Heder's bio as old smuggling country. Jason lives here when the story opens.

Grassrivers

The Everglades analogue: wetlands, airboats, gators and places where things get lost on purpose.

Ambrosia

Industrial-agricultural inland Leonida — sugar country with a company-town feel.

Mount Kalaga National Park

Forested highlands with rolling terrain, a first for a Vice City-era setting — expect wilderness gameplay in a series that historically saved it for its West Coast maps.

Port Gellhorn

A faded Gulf-coast port town — pill mills, motels and demolition derbies per official screenshot captions.

How big is the map?

Not officially stated. The fan-run State of Leonida mapping project has reconstructed the geography from official trailers and screenshots with over 1,500 evidence-based markers — it's the most rigorous unofficial resource out there, and worth exploring. But remember: every total-map-size claim circulating is an estimate, not an announcement.
