GTA 6 File Size Reported at 210 GB on PS5

A PlayStation Store tracker says Grand Theft Auto VI is a 210 GB download on PS5. Insider Gaming says it can corroborate the number. Rockstar has published no size, so this is Reported, not Confirmed, and the figure can still move before the 12 November preload.
It is the first size claim with a credible chain behind it. The earlier numbers were a single unverifiable screenshot and a joke that got loose.
Who reported the number
The figure comes from PlayStation Game Size, an X account that follows PlayStation Store data. On 27 October it posted, in the words Insider Gaming embedded: "Download Size: 210 GB, Standard ($79.99), Pre-Load: November 12, Release: November 19, Release Time: Midnight."
Complex describes the account as one that determines install sizes "by scraping the PlayStation Store database backend". Insider Gaming calls it a popular datamining profile and writes that it "can corroborate this information". It adds the right caveat itself: the number is correct "at the time of writing", and things are "always subject to change".
This is store metadata, a number in a listing database. It is not game files or build content, and we are not linking to or describing anything from the game itself.
Everything else in the post matches what we already carry. Preload on 12 November, release on 19 November, midnight local time, $79.99 for the Standard Edition: all of that is in the preload guide and the editions guide from Rockstar's and the stores' own pages.
What we could not verify
We read the public PlayStation Store page for the game on 28 October. It shows no download size. The public page and the backend the tracker reads are not the same thing, so that does not contradict the report, but it means we cannot check the number ourselves. No outlet we read has a statement from Rockstar or Sony on the size.
Two details are unsettled:
- Xbox. The tracker reads PlayStation data. Complex words its summary as 210 GB on "PS5 and Xbox Series X|S". GameWatcher says the Xbox Series X|S size "has not yet been confirmed". We side with the narrower reading: PS5 only, until an Xbox listing or Microsoft says otherwise.
- The day-one patch. Insider Gaming says a day-one patch could add more once the game unlocks. Rockstar has not said whether one is coming or how large it would be. Whether 210 GB already includes one is unknown.
210 GB against your drive
Take the number as a planning figure with a question mark on it. It is close to the 200 GB margin our file size guide already recommended, so that advice stands, with a little less slack.
For scale, our guide lists what Rockstar's last two open worlds install at on PS5: roughly 87 GB for Grand Theft Auto V and roughly 116 GB for Red Dead Redemption 2. Both grew through patches after launch. If 210 GB holds, GTA VI is nearly double the larger of the two.
Usable space, using the figures in that guide:
| Console | Usable space | 210 GB takes |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 (launch model, 825 GB) | about 667 GB | about 31% |
| PS5 Slim (1 TB) | about 842 GB | about 25% |
| Xbox Series X | about 802 GB | about 26% |
| Xbox Series S | about 364 GB | about 58% |
The Series S column is the one to look at. If your drive is already close to full, a patch on top of 210 GB is the part that bites on launch morning. Xbox and PS5 both refuse to run current-generation games from a USB drive, so an external disk only helps as parking for games you are not playing.
What to do before 12 November
Check your free space now rather than on preload night. Preload files land at midnight local time on the 12th and stay locked until the game unlocks, so a failed download that night costs you a week of lead time, not an hour. The countdown shows both dates for your store region.
Boxed copies are download codes, not discs, as Rockstar's own edition pages say, so a physical buyer needs the same space. The preload guide covers redeeming the code first.
When a store listing or the preload itself shows the size, we will check it against 210 GB and update this post and the guide. If Rockstar publishes a number, the badge changes. Everything we have verified about the launch is gathered in everything we know about GTA 6.
