Sony Reveals Limited-Edition GTA 6 DualSense Controllers

ConfirmedPlayStation Blog4 min read

Sony confirmed two officially licensed GTA 6 DualSense controllers this week, and for once the leak cycle had nothing to do with it. This one came straight from PlayStation's own blog, a State of Play unveiling, and a preorder window that opens in days.

Two Controllers, Two Sides of Vice City

The pair is the DualSense Wireless Controller – Grand Theft Auto VI Black Limited Edition and its White Limited Edition counterpart. Both use what Sony describes as a shimmering, color-shifting finish built around Vice City's sunset palette and neon glow, with palm tree details molded directly into the shell rather than printed on top. A Grand Theft Auto VI logo sits across the touchpad on each.

The two colorways split the setting in half. White is Vice City by day: white sand, pastel sky, the laid-back side of the coast. Black is the city after dark, built around the neon-drenched nightlife that's carried most of the marketing so far. Neither controller changes anything under the hood. This is a cosmetic edition of the standard DualSense, not a new hardware revision, so the adaptive triggers, haptics, and built-in microphone all work exactly as they do on a stock pad.

Sony has run this playbook before with themed DualSense controllers tied to its own first-party games, timed to launch alongside them rather than ahead of them. The GTA 6 pair costs $10 more than a standard DualSense ($74.99), a smaller gap than the premium some past licensed pads have carried. What's different this time is the license itself: Sony rarely builds hardware around a third-party release at this scale.

Price and Launch Date

Both controllers cost $84.99 in the US (€84.99, £74.99, ¥12,480 including tax). They launch November 19, 2026, the same day as the game itself, so this is one more thing landing on your doorstep on launch day rather than ahead of it.

There's no bundle option with the game itself; these are accessory purchases on top of whichever edition of GTA 6 you're already planning to buy.

Preorders Open September 10 — And Won't Last

Preorders begin September 10 at 7:00am Pacific / 10:00am Eastern in the US, with the UK and most of Western Europe opening at 10:00am local time the same day. Portugal routes through the general PlayStation Store hardware page rather than a dedicated listing.

Availability splits by color. The White edition is broadly available through direct.playstation.com and participating retailers. The Black edition is narrower: PlayStation Direct exclusive in the US, UK, and major European markets, with only select retailers carrying it elsewhere. Direct orders also come with free launch-day delivery on eligible preorders, so anyone wanting the controller in hand on November 19 has a real incentive to buy straight from Sony rather than wait on a third party.

TheGamer's preorder writeup doesn't hedge on what happens next: it expects "the PlayStation Direct website to run out incredibly fast and other retailers to be not far behind," pointing to prior limited-edition PS5 controllers, including the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Wolverine pad, that sold out within minutes and immediately resurfaced on resale sites well above MSRP. Nothing about this launch suggests it'll go differently. If you want one at retail price, September 10 at the exact minute preorders open is the window, not the day.

Where This Fits the Launch Lineup

This is the second piece of GTA 6-branded PlayStation hardware confirmed this year, following the PS5 Pro's enhanced-mode support for the game. Sony clearly sees GTA 6 as a platform moment worth its own merchandise line, not just a marquee third-party release. Whether Microsoft answers with an Xbox equivalent hasn't been announced either way.

For anyone tracking spend ahead of November, this stacks on top of decisions you're likely already weighing: which edition to preorder, whether the extras are worth the price gap between them, and now whether a themed controller is worth $85 on top of that. None of the three purchases affect each other, and Sony hasn't tied the controller to any in-game bonus or discount. It's a standalone accessory, priced and positioned like every limited DualSense before it.

The bigger picture hasn't moved. The countdown to November 19 still reads the same number of days whether or not you preorder a controller, and Rockstar's own release date hasn't shifted since the 89% of preorders skewing toward the Ultimate Edition story broke last month. This is merchandise news, confirmed and dated, sitting alongside the bigger launch machine rather than changing anything about it.
