Sony Built a 300-Inch GTA 6 Theater for Tokyo Game Show

Rockstar isn't exhibiting at Tokyo Game Show this year. Sony didn't need it to. PlayStation's own Japanese blog confirmed on September 10 that its TGS 2026 booth is built around a dedicated GTA 6 theater, and nothing else at the show is getting that kind of real estate.
What Sony Is Actually Building
Inside the PlayStation booth at Makuhari Messe, Sony is running a standing screening of Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, the same trailer that premiered on Netflix on August 27 and then went free on YouTube and Rockstar's own site hours later. The twist here is the presentation, not the footage. The trailer plays on a 300-inch screen, and Sony's floor haptics system runs underneath it, vibrating the floor visitors are standing on in sync with the video and sound. AV Watch and Game Watch, two of Japan's longest-running tech and games outlets, both confirmed the same specs independently of Sony's own post.
Anyone who watches the full thing gets a free "Grand Theft Auto VI | PlayStation" T-shirt, one per person, L-size only, while supplies last. It's a small gesture, but it's also the clearest sign of intent in this whole announcement: Sony wants people standing through the entire trailer, not wandering past a screen playing on a loop in the background.
Tokyo Game Show 2026, Dates and Access
TGS 2026 runs September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. The first two days, September 17 and 18, are business days open 10:00 to 17:00. The public gets in September 19 and 20 from 9:30 to 17:00, and September 21 from 9:30 to 16:00. The GTA 6 theater runs inside the PlayStation booth for the full run, not as a one-day special.
Four other PS5 titles get hands-on demo slots at the same booth: Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Marvel's Wolverine, and Ace Combat 8: Wings of the Theve. PlayStation Plus subscribers can reserve a slot for the public days through September 16 at 11:59 p.m. on PlayStation's site; anything left over is first-come, first-served on-site. The GTA 6 theater itself doesn't need a reservation. It's a walk-up screening, not a demo station, since there's no controller in your hands for any of it.
No Rockstar Booth, No Take-Two Presence
This is entirely a Sony production, as GTA BOOM's English-language writeup of the Japanese announcement confirms. There's no standalone Rockstar Games booth at TGS 2026 and no Take-Two Interactive presence separate from what Sony is running. That's consistent with how Rockstar has handled every part of this marketing cycle: it doesn't send the game to trade shows, it lets platform partners build the physical experiences, and it saves its own direct communication for Newswire posts and Rockstar-owned events. Sony picking up the slack at a show this size, with a screen this big, says more about how much marketing value Sony sees in this game than it does about Rockstar's convention strategy.
The Third Piece of Sony's Physical GTA 6 Push
Line this up against what Sony has already done. Tokyo billboards for GTA 6 have been up around the city ahead of the show. Two limited-edition DualSense controllers launch alongside the game on November 19, styled around Vice City's day and night halves. Now there's a trade-show theater built specifically to make the trailer feel bigger than a browser tab. None of these are Rockstar's doing. All three are Sony spending its own marketing budget on someone else's game, at a scale usually reserved for first-party PlayStation Studios titles.
That pattern matters beyond the show itself. UK console sales already jumped in the week after the Extended Look aired, and PS5 Pro stock was already thinning at some retailers before Sony added a themed controller on top. A 300-inch screen at the biggest games show in Japan isn't going to move console sales by itself, but it's one more data point that Sony is treating GTA 6 less like a third-party release it happens to publish on and more like a system-seller it gets to borrow.
What This Doesn't Change
Nothing here is new information about the game itself. The trailer showing on that screen is the exact same Extended Look footage this site already broke down in detail back in August. There's no new gameplay, no new release information, and no confirmation of anything about a PC version or GTA Online that wasn't already known. If you're not physically at Makuhari Messe between September 17 and 21, this changes nothing about how you'll experience the game. It's a marketing event, confirmed and specific, not a content reveal.
For anyone tracking the run-up to launch rather than the show floor, the countdown to November 19 is still the number that matters. Sony can build as many haptic floors as it wants; the release date hasn't moved, and neither has anything Rockstar itself has said about the game since the Extended Look aired.
